About

Msaifuddin.com was started back in 2006 by Mohammad Saifuddin Sairin. At first, it was intended to be a place for me to learn about web technologies (domain, scripting, CMS, etc.), but with a lot of free spaces left, I decided to utilize it and set up a blog for my daily rambling. :)

Fedora Core on Dell PowerEdge 4600

After failing miserably (this whole week!) to run Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) on Dell PowerEdge 4600, today I had successfully installed Fedora Core 6 on the box. At first when I get the chance to work with the quite-old-server (6 years old), I wasn’t aware about any OS related issues with it, so I just go on with my favourite distro (Ubuntu) and formatted the whole disks and install Intrepid as the server’s new operating system. But then whenever the box was rebooted, the only thing that appear after the BIOS startup were “Error Loading Operating System” and “Missing Operating System”. At first, I thought it was my fault that maybe I have done something wrong during installation process, RAID settings, etc. but then after trying several times I am sure that it was caused by the box itself. Googling for the problem doesn’t help much. When I came across PE4600 user guide, I found that the only operating system supported by PE4600 are:

  • Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 Server
  • Microsoft Windows® 2000 Server and Advanced Server
  • Red Hat Linux 7.x
  • Novell® NetWare® version 5.x

No wonder the installation before were complete failure. Then I look for other Linux OS on the CD archive but most of them were either damaged, “partial” (missing parts) or outdated (…and they have about 5 same-version-Ubuntu discs..wow!). The only working discs were Fedora Core 6 (in 4 CDs), a 2006 distro…duh! I have no choice but to use it because:

  • - the PE4600 can only read CDs as it has no DVD drive (…it’s really fucking old…
  • - no more CDs stock at the moment..
  • - I’ve wrongly downloaded the Fedora 10 live CD, and the installation failed on that..
  • - Fedora has somewhat relation with RHL, I “think” it will meet the OS requirement..
  • - …..I’m in a hurry!

Inserted the first CD, choose the options and remove all GUI leaving only the core components, and there it goes…a smooth and successful installation!

The “new” box is running, but without a proper network connection. Then I reconfigure the network settings, set up the static IP address for eth0 adapter (the other two NIC slots were not used). The box were running fine on the network, but without connection to WAN. damn!…I forgot to add the NameServer record.

Edited the /etc/resolv.conf file and added the DNS server’s address, nameserver 10.x.x.x, to the record and walla!…a success!

internship-part 2

Yesterday my supervisor @ ‘boss‘ assigned a task for me. My primary job is to create a vehicle registration system for monitoring the distribution of car stickers for PKK staff’s and to replace the current manual filing system. Not my favorite type of work…but…whatever~

Besides doing the main task for my report evaluation, I am also required to deal with networking, server administration and troubleshooting. These are the fields that I prefer the most. I really hate doing programming (sometimes), but because of my varsity course, I am required to do something that suits my study field…wrong course choice, I think..whatever~

Since my first day at PKK, I noticed that their DHCP IP always goes berzerk after every few hours. The DHCP IP would get disconnected and then after about half an hour, it would be back to normal and then a few hours later the same thing keeps repeating. No wonder the staffs always complain about the inaccessible internet. It’s actually because of their DHCP server. I told them about the problem and suggest them to use static IP. I have been using static IP since my first day and when the problem occurs, the only person who were able to surf the net was me. Then my boss showed me the DHCP server they were using, a Fedora 9 box. She asked my opinion about the DHCP server problem but since I don’t know the server settings and I am not quite sure how the thing operates, I suggest that it may have been caused by some misconfiguration or hardware/networking problems. She asked me about some command on the unix box since she was not quite familiar with it and reboot the box. Then I learned that the server actually may have some hardware and OS problems after it hang upon loading some startup module (always happened) and the server could not be shut down ‘normally’ (the power button is damaged)…old box

Tomorrow I will be continuing my work to troubleshoot one of the file server, which are running on Windows Server 2003 and always having problem of getting disconnected from the network (if I’m not mistaken), and also setting up the KVM switch for monitoring multiple servers from a single keyboard, video monitor and mouse.

internship

Today is my first day going to internship at ICT Department, Politeknik Kota Kinabalu. I arrived early in the morning, about 7.35 a.m like that. Then I waited for 20 minutes before entering the office as I don’t see anyone inside although the door is open. After I went inside, I introduced myself to the staff and waited for another 50 minutes for the staff-in-charge to come. She is late because of some problems in the administration department. Nevermind. After a brief chat with her, she introduced me to my office mates. They are all very friendly. It was a slow start, but at the end of the day we started talking cock. My job for the first day, nothing in particular. I made a straight-through cable for the servers as the technician was not available. The specific job has not been assigned yet but I have an intuition that it will be something which “I don’t like”. Whatever~

Pensyarah lapor klip video hina Islam

“Klip video itu memaparkan seorang lelaki memakai seluar jean tanpa baju sedang menyembah potongan ayat Al-Quran sambil berkata, ’sabda Rasulullah (saw.), marilah kita semua orang Melayu makan babi’.

How the heck can he trace the IP of the user?..kecuali la dia ni admin youtube atau dia ada berhubung dengan staff youtube (which I doubt!)..Mungkin tersalah laporan oleh wartawan yang tak tau selok belok komputer atau pensyarah ni yang tak tau nak describe the situation. Actually the location is stated clearly on his (the poster’s) profile (betul atau tidak, blakang cerita..), no need to do stupid IP tracing la..

Anyway, the statement “pihaknya telah membuat siasatan dan alamat Internet Protokol (IP) di laman web berkenaan menunjukkan” makes him looks super-fucking-cool, like he’s somewhat a hacker or working with some special organization that can track and trace user’s IP without having to ask youtube’s permission, etc.

cool huh!

How to hack UiTM database

Just a quick posting since I’m very busy preparing for tomorrow’s exam, 2 papers from morning ’till evening, and worst they are the subjects that I hate the most! wtf!

I’m going through the Feedjit’s ‘recent visitor’ widget on the right side of this blog and I came across a visit from Yahoo’s search result “How to hack uitm database” and it landed on August 2008 archive. LOL~

Yeah, go hack the fucking-I-don’t-know-what-shit-database-uitm-has with such queries. I’m sure after millions of pages you’ll find the perfect hack on how to get the bloody database. Hell yeah!

…go play kite instead of wasting your time searching for such nonsense things.

*I always laugh when I see my blog visitors referrer, their search queries and the result that they get from my site.

Azlan’s wedding ceremony

I went to Kota Belud yesterday to attend Azlan’s last-minute-call wedding ceremony. The event actually started on last Friday where on the night they were having Majlis Berinai but Azlan only informed me at 7 p.m on Friday about the event. (Majlis Akad Nikah has been held on the bride’s place in Kelantan earlier.)

I went together with Amar and Yee and the 45 minutes journey to Kota Belud started at 9 a.m and we arrived on his house at about 10 a.m. After a quick makan-makan, we were having a long chat with him since it has been almost one and a half year since we last met him. It was surprising when he told us that he only knew her wife for less than a year before they were getting married. Wow! Like the old sayings, jangan tunggu lama-lama, nanti diambil orang.

*The rest of the entry will be in Malay since I’m having difficulty to translate some ‘wedding terms’ to english.

Adam Lambert is gay

I was browsing the net when I came across the story of Adam Lambert. I read through the article and just couldn’t believe what I’m reading. It wasn’t new. The story was posted a month ago, only that I never came across it. I’m not a fan of Hollywood gossips. The pictures didn’t lie. Now I’m removing myself from his Facebook fan page. Gay sucks!

Go Allison!!

lepas satu, satu lagi

  2. So, proceed to Karamunsing la dan jalan-jalan la di tingkat 3 tu. Mula-mula target nak beli di ACI Technologies sebab aku tengok ada banyak power adapter laptop, but then when I asked them about my lappy’s adapter model, they said it was out of stock.
  3. Then cari lagi di kedai-kedai lain, tapi still tak jumpa juga, dan akhirnya aku TERPAKSA masuk ke kedai Budget PC. I fucking hate this shop (they sell second hand shits with fucking expensive price, what’s so ‘budget’ about this shop??).
  4. Time tengah survey tu ada la sorang mat saleh nak tanya barang Celcom broadband kat booth sebelah kedai tu, tapi apa ke bodohnya orang-orang kat booth tu, sekor pun tak reti cakap English. Kalau tak reti cakap English pun, buat la cara bermaruah. Ini tidak, pura-pura menulis-entah-apa dan buat bodoh bila orang tu tanya. Lepas tu kawan dia panggil orang kedai sebelah nak minta tolong, tapi bangangnya pun sama juga. Lastly mat saleh tu kata “It’s okay, it’s okay” dengan nada menyampah kat orang-orang tu. Aku perasan mat saleh tu perhati dari jauh dengan muka menyampah, as if he was fooled by those idiots. Kesian dia.
  6. Bila dia on saja, tiba-tiba ada bunyi cracking as if the adapter meletup di dalam. Mamat tu dah cuak buat muka orang tercirit tapi dia tak off lagi. Aku bagitau dia yang aku baru ja ambil laptop tu dari service center, takkan la dah rosak pula, tak sampai pun sejam lepas. But then he defended himself, masih dengan kenyataan bodoh dia tu, lagi katanya “adapter kau OK tu, nda rusak, motherboard ko tu yang rusak, bagus ko antar suruh dorang cek balik”. I said “aahh!!!??? macam mana pula??..baru saja saya antar ni pigi repair, ni motherboard pun baru ganti!!….nda pa la!” dan terus berambus.  Dia pula masih dengan muka gabra, muka keluar taik…keluar peluh, sedangkan dalam tu sejuk.
  7. Problem bukan pasal motherboard macam jawapan bodoh dia tu, the problem is entah adapter apa yang dia cucuk dalam laptop ni. I don’t think he read and understand the voltage and current information atau dia buat-buat pandai sebab dia kerja di kedai komputer dan aku just seorang customer yang bangang nak beli adapter.
  8. Frust with the situation dan ketiadaan kedai-kedai yang menjual adapter made-in-china berharga RM150 tu, aku pun berambus dari Karamunsing. On the way aku telefon HP, tanya dorang whether they’ve used an adapter before with my lappy and they said they’ve used it and it was OK saja. I asked them also about a new original adapter from HP and they said the price is RM301 (seringgit pun berkira..shit!). Bila balik rumah, aku try lagi dengan adapter lama yang-aku-anggap-rosak tu dan terbukti memang rosak. The Budget PC guy was fucking stupid.
  9. Then aku jalan lagi balik ke HP, ingat nak beli original adapter. Sampai sana, the sweet looking girl cashier cum kerani cum tugas-tugas khas kata not available pula. Must order from KL and by next week baru sampai. WTF!
Aerogate jual RM199 compared to HP, RM301. I thought buying from HP directly would be cheaper tapi nampaknya those big company like to suck all of their customer’s money. The made-in-china-fucking-clone-adapter priced RM150, while the original RM199. It’s better to spend a few bucks and get the original one than the stupidly cloned one.
  11. And after all the gruelling day, I headed home and began transferring my files to the “healed” lappy.
  12. Then, a few hours later while surfing the net I came across the online summons checking service. So I entered my car plate number and my IC. I was in shock when I saw my name and my car was listed in the PDRM directory. WHAT THE FUCK!!..the offence: SPEEDING on 11.30 a.m, 25/3/2009 at Jln. Tuaran Bypass. Once again, WHAT THE FUCK!!..What the heck am I doing in Jln. Tuaran Bypass on 11.30 a.m? Heck, where is Jln. Tuaran Bypass?? (I don’t remember road names ). Then I cross check my blog entry on that day and I can’t find any clue what I’m doing on that day. Then I came across the day when my car was sent to Perodua service center for the back seat belt installation. YES! it was that day! and suckingly it was not me who drove the car on that day. It was someone (office driver if I’m not mistaken) from my mom’s office who brought the car to the service center, and IT WAS HIM who should be responsible for the fucking ticket. DAMN!

Pindah rumah lagi

~Time to make a ‘lil changes.

This is why I have not been able to update my blog lately. Their reason:

http://www.streamyx.com.my/whats_new/whats_new.php?id=article_20090410

This shit is also affecting my download rate. The usual 160kB/s rate has dropped drastically to 15-25kB/s max. Crap!

I’ll wait till next week for the full restoration to complete. If the speed still sucks, I’ll phone and maki-hamun them.

Because of the stupid latency, I’m considering to move to Malaysian server again. damn!

Expect some theme changes soon. I’ll be ajax-ing the blog with simpler theme, cutting off all the nonsense design. I suck when it comes to design.
